Record the leaf dimensions
Measure hinge height and the full open width, and record metal thickness separately. State the units. Include the corner shape and any unusual leaf geometry. Where paint or wear obscures a dimension, identify the uncertainty instead of reporting a guessed exact value.
Locate fixing holes and recesses
Record hole positions using a consistent datum. Show the door and frame recesses, screw heads and any countersinking. Photograph the hinge next to a scale and include both sides. A supplier needs to know whether the prepared recess and holes can be changed.
Add the operating context
List door dimensions, approximate weight, material and the number of hinges. Identify the closer or other hardware that affects the opening. If grade, finish or test evidence is specified, include it as a separate requirement for the exact proposed replacement.
